This year I’ve made a conscious effort to focus my studies in illustration and design. Last year my head and heart felt like they were being pulled in every direction, trying to explore all the design markets at once in order to find my style. I was left feeling overwhelmed, confused and stuck with a scattered portfolio of work that just wasn’t cohesive.
So I’ve stripped things back to where I first began, starting with the teachings of Bonnie Christine. I first started taking her courses in surface pattern design back in 2014 when I discovered her class on CreativeLive. Bonnie is passionate about opening up the world of pattern design to those who want to pursue a flexible career that works for them around their families and other responsibilities.
I’m currently working my way through the Flourish program where Bonnie’s advice and classes are helping me to stay on track and achieve my design goals one step at a time. I’m finally taking action with the stack of illustrations that have been building up in my desk drawer over the years, learning Adobe Illustrator in-depth with Bonnie’s help and getting to grips with the business side of surface pattern design.
