Annie McGee

Alternative designer, embroiderer and seamstress

based in Cheshire, UK

Since 2010 I've been stitching up alternative embroidery and sewing under the persona of Scavenger Annie.

It's a name that emerged from a character I used to play in my old museum job and my family's history with the cotton mills in Lancashire (my grandad worked as a scavenger - cleaning the mill machines as a child and worked his way up to being a spinner).

As an alternative seamstress and embroiderer I'm inspired by vintage patterns of the 40s, 50s and 60s, tattoos, rock music, steampunk, kawaii and geekery.

On this site you will find some of the threads that I've stitched up over the years and the latest stitchery in my online shop.

It was noted by the judges that my "entry was specific, inspiring and received a lot of votes from the community thanks to [her] activity on social media".

As part of the celebrations for The Handmade Fair a competition was launched to discover the most influential crafters.

I placed 30 out of 100 and it was a great honour to be featured in the #Handmade100 list of Twitter’s top 100 crafters as voted for by the public.
